People's choice and best student art award

Well, four days of votes by the visitors to the Art Show and Sale and we have winners for the People's choice award (favourite in the show) and the Best Student Artwork award. Remarkably, when John tallied up the ballots there was a tremendous number of paintings nominated. There were 33 paintings selected as favourite in the show and 10 for the student work!

Drum roll... the People's Choice award goes to "Obsession", one of my paintings of a fellow fly fishing in the Cowichan river and the Best Student award goes to Linda Campbell's painting of a horse, done in the July art workshop.







Congrats to all artists - there was consistent feedback by the visitors that it was hard to pick just one, indication of the great array of artwork that was on display.

A reminder to those visitors who came to vote - mark your calendars for Nov 21-24 for the Cedar Yellowpoint Artisans tour where you can come and see more artwork. And for those wanting to learn to paint and master a new technique, think about signing up for the Sept 28-29 art workshop here. All students over the next year have the opportunity to display their work at next years art show as well.

Wine and cheese for artists

Tonight we hosted a wine and cheese event for the featured artists at the Show and Sale (Lesley Lorenz, Marci Leighton and Kevin Bray) and students of past workshops. Art Show and Sale begins!

Today marked the first day of the art show and sale here at the Broody Rooster - if you have time to come out over the next few days, we are displaying lots of artwork and other goods from noon to 6 pm until Sunday the 18.

Getting ready for the Art Show and Sale at the Broody Rooster Gallery

Well now that my students are all through their workshops, it is time to get ready for the first Art Show and Sale at the Broody Rooster Gallery on August 15-18.  This event is intended to provide my students an opportunity to showcase their work to the public and to sell works. It will also be a venue for my new work and work of local artist Lesley Lorenz to appear for sale. 

So, spread the word - four days of artwork on display in the lovely rural area of Cedar/Yellowpoint in the loft of the Broody Rooster Barn.  Come by anytime between noon and 6 pm to view the art, chat with artists, vote for the "best in show" and purchase great local artwork.

Wonderful creations in the July Art Workshop at the Broody Rooster

Last week I had the good fortune to be joined by fellow "creatives" for one of my Acrylic Art Workshops in the loft of our new barn at the Broody Rooster.  It never ceases to impress me the range of subject material and the range of colours that students use in their masterpieces. It is always fun to watch how they apply the same principles to different material with such great outcomes.

Thanks to all the participants last week - I hope you learned a lot and that you will be inspired to continue to create post workshop. I look forward to seeing your work in the future and hopefully to painting together again.

Artwork at the Trading Post for Customer Appreciation Days

Isn't it great when local small businesses work together? I was asked by friends at the Trading Post - my local tack and feed store - to have a booth for their Customer Appreciation Days May 25-26.  I was able to get a great spot near the door and had lots of inquiries about wine glasses, art workshops and paintings. Thanks gang at the Trading Post for sharing your customer base with me.

Art at the Coco Cafe in Cedar

If you are out and about in the lovely village of Cedar or Yellowpoint, make sure to stop by the Coco Cafe in the village center. This funky little Co-operative is a welcome addition to the community and is a great place to grab a coffee and a bite to eat.  For years my friends and I have said that after a run we needed a place where we could grab a little java (and a treat to replace those lost calories!). Now we have it.

I was pleasantly surprised about a month ago when I saw that they were looking for local artists to display their work. Luckily, I got in and wanted to share with folks that I now have 13 pieces of art (many new) on display this month.  So, stop by and check it out and support those who support local artists.
